Summer in Seersucker

Can you believe Labor Day weekend is here?! August felt like a long month at times and then short other times, but it’s hard to believe that September is right around the corner.

I used to associate the beginning of September with the start of fall. Now living in Tuscaloosa where it will be in the 80s all month, it feels like a never-ending summer. I’m excited to continue to wear this outfit a few more times before fall really arrives here in the south. It has been a favorite of mine all summer with its light colors and loose fit. I purchased this off-the-shoulder seersucker top in the Vineyard Vines x Target collection and love its versatility with jeans or shorts. These bow shorts have been in my closet for a few years, but I think this combo may be my favorite outfit with them yet. They are very comfortable and the bow adds such a fun touch.

I added my new favorite crossbody that I picked up for under $25 and my Steve Madden sandals. Both are great neutral accessories and are easy to dress up or down. My navy earrings provide a perfect complement. They are easily one of my most worn pairs. This outfit is easy to put together and is comfortable in the endless summer heat.

Do you have a favorite outfit from the summer?

Monday Mix

Greetings from Tuscaloosa! I missed last week's Monday Mix due to moving in to my junior year room, which I can't wait to share with you soon. I'm excited to be back this week with so many cute items I've been eyeing this week.

Would it be a Monday Mix without a pair of statement earrings?! These pink and red ones are a great pop of color and could easily be worn year round. Get an extra 30% off with code WOAS30.

This hot pink eyelet top is so feminine and pretty. It would be a good transition piece from summer to fall, and it's currently 50% off with code WEARNOW.

I have been loving flatforms this summer, and this espadrille pair would be a perfect comfy pair for game days. They're currently under $20.

Now that school has started, I am wearing tennis skirts almost every day. This white tiered one is under $20 and also comes in black.

Because it's back to school season, I'm ending with my new agenda that arrived last week. I love the Day Designer because of the daily pages and hourly schedules. I've started using mine already and can't wait to share how I organize it.

Monday Mix

This week's Monday Mix is full of neutrals and blues... I guess Monday blues are real this week! I am finishing up my internship this week and heading back to Tuscaloosa this weekend. I may be preparing to go back to school, but this week's mix is still summery.

This jumpsuit looks so comfy. A complete outfit with just one piece and under $25? Yes, please.

Throwing in another dorm decor item! I have a pineapple lamp in my room at school and it's such a fun personal touch. This gold one would work well with any color scheme.

I'm never one to turn away from earrings that work with any outfit. This white raffia pair is the perfect summer staple year after year.

Fun flats are my go-to for putting a personal touch on a business casual outfit. These blue flats are subtle but add a great color addition.

Bamboo handbags have been so popular this summer, and this darling purse is on the lower price end from others I've seen. It's feminine and versatile for any occasion in the summer.

The Hampton Social in South Barrington

Last weekend, my parents and I went to dinner at the new Hampton Social location in South Barrington. I had been to the restaurant in the city a few times before, but I was excited that there would be a location opening up closer to where I live. My parents had never been to a Hampton Social before so I was excited to go with them to the coastal-inspired spot.

I wanted to share a few fun pictures I took of the new location. With navy furnishings and nautical details, guests are instantly transported into a shore-side environment. Quite a difference from the Chicago suburbs! Each room is so cute and bright. I would describe the overall aesthetic as bright and breezy — such a change from many restaurants. The lounge area is complete with a Rosé All Day wall which is perfect for pictures.

For an appetizer, we ordered the parmesan fried. They were so good and I could've eaten them as my meal. My mom and I split the fish and chips and an avocado and corn flatbread. Both were delicious and I would absolutely order again.

If you have the chance to go to a Hampton Social in the Chicago area, I highly recommend going! Delicious food, pretty interiors, and overall a good time. Can't wait to visit again when I come home next!

My Move In Day Essentials

Move in season is here! I find move in day to be so exciting — decorating a new space, meeting or seeing your roommate and getting ready for the year ahead. Though it is exciting, it can be a long and exhausting day. I shared my tips for a smooth move in day here.

There are a few items that can help ease the process of move in day. Some may be obvious, but also may be easy to forget. Throughout my move in days the past few years I found these items made a small but helpful impact that helped keep the day moving.

Clorox Wipes
The first thing my mom and I did moving in both times was wipe the place down. The room has been sitting empty all summer — or potentially worse: full of campers. Who knows what kind of dust has collected in there? I highly recommend wiping everything down first to start fresh before moving in your own items.

Swifer Pads
Once you’ve cleaned everything, you may want to dust too. Swifer pads serve great as dusters and you can get so much use out of just one. These are great to have on hand during the year too.

Command Strips
It’s easy not to think of all the uses you may need a Command Strip for. Whether there are pictures or mirrors you want to hang, hooks for keys or towels, or any other items you may want to hang, I recommend having them on hand prior to moving in. I recommend using these generously to make sure it’s not going to fall off.

Scissors
In order to open any new items or packages, your hands will thank you at the end of the day if you use scissors. They will definitely speed up the process of opening various packages and are an easy to pack.

Trash Bags
There will be wrappers, Clorox wipes, you name it. All this trash will need a place to go! Having large trash bags is important for easily getting rid of stuff quickly. Even though it feels like you’re moving in items that you’re keeping, there will inevitably be a significant amount of trash.

Coffee
This one is optional, but move in day is long! I definitely recommend picking up some caffeine to help keep you moving all day. A trip for coffee is always a good break in the day too.

What are your move in day essentials?

Monday Mix

Happy Monday! The first Monday of August was a hot one here in Chicago. I feel like my Mondays are missing the usual excitement now that The Bachelorette is over, but I'm enjoying my last few weeks at home.

This week's Monday Mix is a bit of a variety. Even though school starts in a few weeks, I'm in a summer state of mind so I chose summertime pieces and added one dorm item just because.

These Bauble Bar earrings are just $20 and are so fun. I love the pink color and the tassel detailing. They feel like a great staple to have for summers to come.

I love gingham no matter the season, and this blue one-piece suit screams summertime. It's currently an additional 50% off with code SPLASH.

Throwing the dorm room item right in the middle to change it up, ha! I forgot to include this item in my Container Store sale post, but I highly recommend. It's great to place on a bedside table and creates extra space on the surface by grouping items like remotes, phone and glasses in one spot. It's currently $8 if you use the college discount!

Gold earrings are my go-to simply because they go with everything. These rattan hoops are a great neutral for summer and are only $9.

I mentioned it last week, I've been wearing cross body bags like crazy this summer. This one is currently on sale and would add a bright pop of color to any outfit.

July Favorites

July feels like it flew by! Between the Fourth of July, my brother’s graduation party, a quick trip to my grandparents’ house, time with friends and interning, this month was a fun and busy one. August will be filled with a bittersweet ending to my internship followed by heading back to Tuscaloosa to start my junior year. It feels as though these last few weeks of summer just keeping moving faster and faster.

This month’s favorites post is a little bit of everything. From reading to watching to wearing, this roundup is a diverse collection. I found myself wanting to pull from my June list which I think is a good sign that I’ve found some favorites this summer.

I read a few great books this month but really want to recommend this one. I read it so quickly and was surprised by the ending. Suspense and thriller is not usually my favorite genre, but I really liked this one and can’t wait to see the movie coming out next year.

This was a product I featured in my summer beauty favorites last year, but I have continued to use it since. It’s a tinted moisturizer and isn’t as heavy as foundation. I’m no makeup pro, but love the light coverage it provides while also giving me color during the summer.

During the weekend, you can probably find me in a tennis skirt. I’ve found a number of cute ones at TJ Maxx all under $20 that are great quality. This one is similar to an older navy and white one in my closet, and I love feeling a bit more put together in a more casual outfit, ha!

I picked up this navy planner from Target earlier this month and am a big fan of how thin and light it is. During the school year I use a Day Designer, and I’ve enjoyed switching it up with a more compact planner during the summer. Highly suggest if you’re looking for a lightweight planner for the schoolyear.

This was another product I featured last year, but will continue to recommend. Each week I use a face mask to clean my skin and hydrate. The masks are inexpensive and are recommended for 30 minutes, but I usually leave it on for closer to 50 minutes to really let me skin soak up every last drop. I love how my skin feels so soft for days afterward too.

I watched the first season of Big Little Lies On Demand this month and was able to catch up and watch the last half of the second season live with my mom. I usually prefer movies over TV shows, but found this one so interesting. I loved watching the six different women’s stories intertwine and was in suspense until the end. The series has so many of my favorite actresses too! Though I watched the series first, I have the novel on my “to read” list and can’t wait to read.

What’s on your July favorites list?
