School Day Snacks

The school year is in full swing! As much as I miss summertime, I really enjoy being back on a schedule and feeling productive each day.  College is a very different schedule than high school, which has taken a bit of adjustment. While classes do not meet as often, there is more time spent getting to classes and completing work on my own.

Between classes, homework, blog work, meetings, and everything in between, I always need a little pick-me-up around mid-afternoon. It's so easy to want to grab a bag of chips or even fast food French fries, but I try to pack a bag of SkinnyPop in my backpack each morning before I head out the door. The Freshman 15 is so real, and I am trying my best to maintain a somewhat balanced diet. Not only is SkinnyPop delicious, but the small snack size bags satisfy my afternoon hunger and gives me some energy until dinnertime.

I also make sure I go work out.  We have two amazing facilities on campus.  It is a fun activity to go with friends on the slower Sunday afternoons or in the evening when I need to take a break from the books.  During the week, I eat at my sorority and while everything is so good, especially "fried Fridays," I try to make smart choices.  I could happily drink sweet tea at every meal, but I don't, and I know my waist line and my teeth are happy about that.

What healthy tips do you like to follow? Have you tried SkinnyPop? (Trust me, you'll love it!)

Freshman Year Dorm Room!

I am so excited to be sharing my freshman year dorm room with y'all! I moved in to my room at the University of Alabama just over a month ago and absolutely love my little space that I call my home away from home. My dorm room is a finalist in the Living Fresh Flip Your Dorm Scholarship Contest. I would really appreciate it if you could head over to their Instagram (@livingfreshbedding) and like my picture to vote for me! Thank you!

This year, I am living in a suite-style dorm. I have three roommates and we each have our own room. We have two bathrooms and a kitchenette as well. I love how spacious it is and how homey it feels.

For my room, I really wanted it to fit my personal style and be more of a living space than a little beige box. I created a color palette and accent colors and worked from there. I knew I wanted to incorporate a few of my favorite colorful prints, too! I used hot pink, Caribbean blue, and seafoam green with accents of white and gold.

With touches of elephants, pineapples, personal pictures, and sorority decorations, I've created a space that doesn't even feel like a dorm. I love coming home to a bright, welcoming room that just feels like me.

When opening the door to my room, you can see my bed (with my absurd amount of throw pillows), my bedside table, and my cubby storage unit. I selected a white duvet to easily compliment the various colors in the room. Living Fresh was so kind in sending the softest duvet that keeps me so cozy at night. I also have white sheets underneath from Living Fresh that make bedtime one of my favorite parts of the day.

My bed is just about three feet off the floor so I can store various items underneath. I keep my suitcase and dresser with extra supplies such as late night snacks. With my bed elevated so high, I use an ottoman to help me get up onto my bed. I glued a pink and white striped ribbon to this cream ottoman to help it better fit the room. The top of the ottoman is removable so I can use the inside for storage, too!

Next to my bedside table, I have a 3x3 cubby unit from Target. I use the various cubbies to hold clothes and extra hair and makeup supplies. The closed storage keeps my room looking clean while providing lots of storage. On top of the cubbies sits a tray with my daily makeup products and my holder for hair products. I have a similar set up at home, so it adds to the homey feeling of the room. I love being able to do my hair and makeup in my room so the shared bathroom space can stay clean. I personalized this area with a Gamma Phi Banner from Over the Moon and picture frames holding Lilly Pulitzer images.

My bed is one of my favorite parts of my room. I have a memory foam mattress and with the soft bedding from Living Fresh, it is more comfortable than my bed at home. My mom and I DIY-ed my headboard (stay tuned for a tutorial post!) and I love that it adds a bright pop of pink against the white bedding. My headboard pillow from Leigh Deux (c/o) is perfect against the headboard. It adds a nice cushion and helps me sit up straight when doing homework in bed. I may have gone slightly overboard with the throw pillows, but it makes it so fun to crawl into bed at night.

My Let's Cha Cha Duvet at the end of my bed is from Garnet Hill but is unfortunately no longer available. After searching everywhere, I was able to track one down online! I am so thankful to have it since Let's Cha Cha is my favorite Lilly print!

To the left of the door to my room sits my desk. I replaced the chair that came with my room with one from Kohl's. It is so comfortable and I love that it goes with my room much better than the standard brown one. We covered my desk with white paper to brighten the room a bit more. On top of  my desk sits a white hutch (similar) that provides storage and decoration. After seeing Abby and Lindy's  dorm room in this video last year, I knew I could further brighten the space using mirrors and small lights inside the hutch. On top of the hutch, I put my bracelet/earring holder and necklace holder from The Container Store. I put my Lovers Coral memo board (c/o) in the center with stickers and cards I've received. To the right of the memo board sits my little elephant lamp that sits on top of books that I covered with paper from old Lilly agendas.

To the right of my desk, I have another cubby storage unit filled with items I need less often (it may not not look like it, but there is room to pull the cubbies out!). On top, I  covered it with Lilly print to make it a bit more colorful and added a lamp to provide more light to the room. I added an print from Evelyn Henson (similar) on the wall, a picture from my spring break in Mexico, and a recent picture from gameday. I also added a bulletin board that has pictures with friends from my sorority along with my bid day sign, fan, and game day button.

Behind my door, I have a full length mirror and put canvases on the wall. The elephant, pineapple, and palm tree canvases are from My Pink and Green Garden (c/o). My Gamma Phi canvas is from my sorority sister! I hung hooks on the back of my door to hold towels and my canvas Gamma Phi bag. Having storage on the back of my door is perfect for grabbing items quickly before heading out the door.

It's safe to say I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out! I love spending time in such a colorful place and it's fun to call this little corner my home away from home. Thank you for reading through this long post, but if you have questions about where anything is from feel free to leave a comment and I will be sure to respond.

Also, I would so appreciate you voting for my dorm room on the @livingfreshbedding Instagram page! All you have to do is like my photo - thank you in advance!!!

Back to School with Madeline and Company

I have never really been a backpack person. I've always found backpacks bulky and not fitting my style. Going into college, I knew a backpack was a must considering my schedule and the need to carry a significant amount of weight. Luckily, Madeline and Company offers a fun and highly functional backpack that will fit my needs.

With simple but darling styles, Madeline and Company offers a wide variety of backpacks that are durable and stylish. I am so looking forward to using the Slim Backpack this school year. The backpack has ample pockets that stretch to fit my need and all my supplies. There is even a laptop pocket that keeps the interior organized. The navy exterior with the pink and white accents make it fun and fit my personal style. Madeline and Company also offers different color accents to be versatile for a variety of preferences. The gold detailing adds to the polished look, and the padded shoulder straps and back makes it comfortable despite the heavy load inside.

This particular design is geared toward college students, but the Original style is perfect for high school students busy with extra circulars, too. Both styles are durable and ideal for fitting supplies for the entire day.

Agendas for the 2017-2018 School Year

With the school year rapidly approach, it has become that hard part of summer where it is time to focus on back to school shopping. I hate to see the summer end so quickly, but I absolutely love planning for the new year. Part of this planning includes making sure I have the right supplies to tackle the school year with my best foot forward. The most important item? Definitely my agenda.

I have been using an agenda in school for as long as I can remember. Originally, I just wrote down my homework and upcoming assignments. Throughout high school, I began expanding the list of what was included in my agenda. From due dates to rehearsals to meetings, my entire day's to-do list could be found in planner. Honestly, I'm not sure I could have made it through high school without it!

Finding the right agenda is truly a personal choice. I want to make sure there is plenty of room, a monthly outlook, and that it inspires me to get my work done. But, everyone has their own wants and needs when it comes to organization. Today, I've put together some of my favorite agendas that differ in layout and looks to fit a variety of personal tastes!

I have used a Lilly agenda for the past three years. I love the layout. I can view the entire week at once and have found that the amount of room for each day is perfect for me. The prints, stickers, and detailing make me happy when looking at what I need to get done rather than stressed and overwhelmed. Plus with a variety of sizes and prints, there's a plethora of options to choose from.

The Lauren James agenda worked great as my blog/content planning agenda for last year. It is lightweight and easy to fit in my bag. This year, Lauren James has redesigned their agenda to make it easy to track your health habits and monthly goals for career, health, family, love and fun. The pretty prints and pastel pinks help inspire me to get to work and turn my goals into accomplishments.

The Kate Spade Agendas are the epitome of elegance. They are simplistic with pretty touches and styles to make them perfect for someone who needs an agenda but may not want anything too loud. The spiral binding is concealed making it that much easier to slip in and out of a bag. With gold foil stickers, weekly and monthly views, and a section for notes, this agenda is great for work and school.

The Vineyard Vines agenda is a similar layout to the agendas listed above, but it is the planning section of this agenda that sets it apart. Vineyard Vines designated whole sections to dreams, goals, and trip planning. This agenda is perfect for someone who is always on-the-go and likes to think ahead! With fun prints and a lightweight style this agenda is great for in a purse, a backpack, or wherever your adventures may take you!

The Day Designer is ideal for planning practically every moment of the day. With each day divided by the hour, it's easy to map an entire day and see how time is spent over the entire week. The monthly view also allows for clear deadlines to be set, meetings to be scheduled, and whatever may come up! Those who use a Day Designer love how detailed it can be, so if you're looking to plan your day specifically, this would be a perfect option for you!

What kind if agenda will you be using this school year?

A Day at Six Flags Great America

Rollercoasters, chicken nuggets, and sunshine -- these elements make for the perfect weekend, and describe last Saturday in a nut shell. Over the weekend, I went to Six Flags Great America with my brother and two of my cousins. It was the best day and filled with fun from the moment we arrived until the moment we left!

The Six Flags Great America park is located in Gurnee, Illinois which is another suburb my the area. The park has a variety of rides for all ages and thrill levels making it a great getaway for any and all. I was absolutely thrilled to have a day of adventure and explore a park full of endless entertainment!

My bother, cousins, and I arrived at the park near opening and headed straight for the park's newest coaster -- The Joker. The loopy track and upside down maneuvers definitely woke me up and got me ready for a day of more coasters. I had so much fun on this unique ride and have never been on anything like it. We went on four more exciting rides before taking a break for lunch to fuel up for an afternoon of five other rides!

It started to become overcast around lunchtime and we were worried it might begin to rain. We decided to seek some cover and eat lunch. I had chicken nuggets and they did not disappoint. There's just something about amusement park food that's just so tasty. Add fries and Diet Coke to the mix and I was prepared for the afternoon.

Luckily, the rain held off and sunshine came back out. With such great weather, none of the outdoor attractions were closed and we were able to ride everything on our list. One of my favorite rides was Goliath. This coaster is also one of the newer rides and almost completely wooden. With a drop that is practically perpendicular to the ground and multiple sideways twists, it was impossible not to scream with both joy and surprise at the thrills!

By the end of the day, we had gone on ten different rides, walked the entirety of the park, and there were still attractions we didn't fit into the day. There seems to always be something do at Six Flags. From roller coasters to water rides to watching shows, there was certainly no shortage of opportunities for everyone to enjoy the day.

Perfect weather, many rides, and great company made the day a perfect one. I loved spending time with my family and getting to explore the park!

If you're looking for something new to do this summer, be sure to consider heading to Six Flags for a day of fun. Pro tip: use a Coke product can to get a discount on your ticket!

Have you been to a Six Flags park before? What are your favorite types of rides?

Thank you to Six Flags Great America for providing the tickets for our day at the park!

Summer Whites and Blues

Nothing says summer like blue and white. Combined with the off-the-shoulder style and turned it into a light summer sundress, these elements create an easy summer look. I snagged this dress at an end of summer clearance sale last year at Agaci and I have worn it endlessly these past few months. From spring break to grad parties to dinner out with my family, it has become one of my favorite dresses to fit practically any occasion.

I love the off-the-shoulder trend this summer. It is such an elegant cut that is flattering on everyone! The navy and white seersucker look is a popular one to pair with the off-the-shoulder look. The classic touch of the navy and white combo with the current trend of off-the-shoulder creates such a pretty summery look. I love how lightweight this dress is and the fun ties on the shoulder. The dress can be easily dressed up or down with sandals or wedges, and with a touch of jewelry the look is complete!

Today's post is a collaboration with Faith from A Pocket Full of Faith, so be sure to head over to her blog to see her blue and white summer look! I love following Faith to see her beautiful pictures and her inspiring content.

While this dress is old, here are a few other similar styles!

Dorm Room Favorites

It is absolutely crazy to me to think that I will be moving down south in just a few weeks! The summer has flown by and I have loved every minute, but I could not be more excited for this fall and to begin at UA.

One focus of my summer has been assembling pieces for my dorm room. To put it simply, my room is just a tiny brown box. My mom and I are working hard to find pieces that fit my style and will help make it my home away from home! Think bright pinks, seafoam greens, and of course, colorful prints!

Today I've rounded up a few pieces that I've been eyeing for my own dorm room, but could easily be altered to fit anyone's style. From clear lamp bases that can fit next to anything to cubbies that come in a variety of colors, these pieces are versatile!

What pieces are you planning to get for your dorm room?
